We are recruiting for Legally Qualified Chairs
On behalf of the East Midlands policing region, Caroline Henry, Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), is seeking to recruit new Legally Qualified Chairs (LQCs) for Police Misconduct Hearings and Police Appeals Tribunals.
Police Misconduct Hearing panels are arranged to hear allegations of serious cases of misconduct by police officers or special constables.
Police Appeal Tribunal panels are arranged on request of police officers who have a right of appeal against findings made under the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2020 or the Police (Performance) Regulations 2020.
LQCs are paid a sitting allowance and are entitled to claim preparation and report writing fees and travel expenses incurred on LQC business.
As well as being supported through training and development sessions, LQCs will be invited to sit on panel hearings in the East Midlands area, including Nottinghamshire Police, Derbyshire Constabulary, Leicestershire Police, Lincolnshire Police and Northamptonshire Police.
Hearings are often concluded in one day, but this will depend on the complexity of the case being heard. In addition to the hearings there is also a level of preparatory work to be untaken e.g., reading relevant papers, reports, and background information. LQCs are asked for their availability in advance and can choose which days to work.
Applicants will need to be over 18 years of age at the time of appointment, complete an application form, providing proof of identity and residence and undertake Nottinghamshire Police Vetting if successful in being appointed. There is also a requirement to attend a mandatory training session.
